Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls is a non-fee paying school of outstanding educational excellence. The school opened in 1929 and in the time since, many new facilities have been added.
More recently this included the completion of the Katherine Grainger Sports Hall, opened in July 2014.
Our current major building expansion project is for 6 new classrooms and a multi-purpose break-out space.
Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls is a very popular secondary school, with overwhelming demand for places. Over 1100 applications each year are consistently received, against our Planned Admission Number of 180. We are a high performing, non-fee paying school, rated as "Outstanding" by OFSTED. The school's attainment and progress measures are considerably and consistently above the national average.
Our focus is on achieving outstanding outcomes for every student. The school was one of only 27 secondary schools in the country (and the only grammar school) to be a finalist in the 2015 Pupil Premium Awards, and one of four secondary schools to receive an award for 'High Aspiration'. For the last two years, the school has achieved the accolade of National Challenge "Champion School", due to our participation in the National Citizen Service. In March 2015, due to fantastic fund-raising efforts, a number of students and staff attended a Comic Relief Reception at 10 Downing Street.
In September 2014, we responded to the demand for school places at the school by expanding from five forms of entry in Year 7 to six over a five year period.
The existing school buildings accommodated the additional students during the first three years of expansion (September 2014 - September 2016) and the development will support the remaining two years of the expansion (September 2017 - September 2018).
The building work started in July 2016. The total building cost of £1.6 million was secured, including a substantial grant from the Education Funding Agency.
We are seeking continued support from parents in our fundraising for fixtures, fittings and equipment for the classrooms. We hope that you will be inspired to support this ambitious new project through both our programme of fundraising activities and/or regular giving to Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls' School Fund. Donations are also being sought from trusts and funds aimed specifically at education facilities, together with sponsorship opportunities for local businesses.
As you will no doubt have seen from the front of the school, building work on our new classroom block and multi-purpose break-out space continues apace.
As a non-fee paying school of outstanding educational excellence, The Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls Charity is dependent on a strong spirit of philanthropy and we now need the help of parents and friends of the school in our final fundraising push for fixtures, fittings and equipment for the new development. The attached details show the difference that your contribution will make.
