SCGSG Literacy Festival 2019

As the Literacy Festival comes to a close, Mrs Jowett reflects on the weeks activities

This week saw us celebrate all things literature with our annual Literacy Festival. Bestselling authors Holly Smale and Lisa Williamson entertained students with talks about their lives, their writing and inspiration, and signed books for us in the library. Louise Jordan delighted our Year 9 with a storytelling and song spectacular as they discovered the life of suffragette Hannah Mitchell.

Our Book Bake Off demonstrated some incredible creative baking talent amongst our students and raised £240 for charity, with the money going towards books and puzzles for Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Our open doors competition brought out the competitive side between our form groups as they all transformed their form doors into a literary theme. This was definitely the hardest year yet to judge! Students also had the opportunity to participate in craft workshops, watch a lunchtime screening of Mary Poppins Returns, and to browse our Scholastic Book Fair. We cannot wait for next year already!
