Students are expected to take a pride in their personal appearance and to be as well groomed as possible.  Through our uniform and dress codes we aim to:

• encourage pride in the school 
• enable students to be comfortable, safe and secure - our uniform is designed with health and safety in mind
• ensure that all students feel welcome and included
• encourages a sense of equality and cohesion
• protect students from social pressures to dress in a particular way

In this way the uniform and dress code contributes to the overall aims of the school.

All pupils in Years 7 to 11 wear school uniform.  Parental co-operation is vital in maintaining high standards and is greatly appreciated.

• Approved style navy blue blazer with school crest (to be worn at all times).

• Either: Approved style navy blue skirt - made from a firm, woven material. (Not jersey, Lycra or corduroy).  The style should be simple, either A-line, pleated (but not kilt style), or straight and of a length appropriate for school wear.  It should be no shorter than 5cms above mid-knee and no longer than mid-calf

Or

• Approved style navy blue school trousers - straight-legged tailored, school trousers only from our recommended suppliers; trousers must not be made of stretchy lycra, capri pants, tapered leg, skin tight or skinny fit.

• Approved style cream blouse.  Our preferred styles are available from Clive Mark School Wear, Gogna School Wear and Crested School Wear.
• Navy or black shoes which fit well and have low block heels, (no higher than 5cms).  Unacceptable footwear includes trainer type and/or canvas footwear, boots, mules, sling-back or open toe shoes, sandals of any style.
• Coloured stitching, labels or logos are not permitted.  If in doubt, please check with the appropriate head of year.
• If orthotics are necessary, please liaise with the appropriate head of year.  Should this mean that an amendment of the uniform policy is necessary then medical confirmation may be required.
• Tights/socks - opaque navy, black or flesh coloured tights or navy or plain white ankle or knee high socks.  Over the knee socks are not permitted.  Socks must not be work over tights.
• House badge, provided by the school, to be worn on the right lapel of the blazer.

• Navy blue V-necked jumper (embroidered school crest is optional), to be work in addition to blazer, not instead of it.

• Outer clothing, in addition to the blazer, should be an appropriate coat which should be removed on arrival in school.
• Casual clothing including sweat tops, hoodies, leather, mock leather, denim and denim style garments, is not allowed.
• Bag - a plain rucksack or bag suitable for carrying books and equipment.  Handbags are not recommended for carrying books.
• If head scarves are worn, they should be plain navy blue or black in colour.

• A blue overall for use in Art, Science and Technology.
• A plain white apron for Food and Nutrition.

• Multi-purpose training shoes which have a good group, not with smooth soles.  Canvas pumps are not acceptable for outdoor wear but may be worn for gymnastics and dance activities.  Fashion trainers such as Converse, or Vans, are not to be worn.
• Socks are to be worn in all PE lessons, (unless students are told otherwise to meet the needs of the activity).  Knee-length navy blue socks for hockey and football.  White ankle/trainer socks for all other sporting activities.
• Navy blue PE skirt or skort.
• Navy shorts to wear under PE skirt, they should not show below the PE skirt, (no shiny fabric shorts).
• Navy and cyclone blue SCGSG polo-shirt.
• Navy and cyclone blue hoody with the embroidered school crest.
• Navy/black leggings (plain) or tracksuit trousers (plain).
• Sport hijabs /headscarves. These are tight fitting without loose material and so shouldn’t get caught in equipment / apparatus.

• Years 8-11 may continue to wear PE kit previously purchased.

• If hair is tied back, it should be with a scrunchie, hairband, clip or ribbon that is plain blue or natural hair coloured, i.e. black, brown.
• Extreme hairstyles and/or any shaving or hair are not permitted.
• Beading, extensions, coloured weaves and unnatural hair colouring are not permitted; the interpretation of unnatural' is as follows: a colour that is not found within the natural hair colour spectrum, i.e. a bright, extreme or vivid colour and contrasts.
• Jewellery: the only piercings permitted are for wearing earrings.  One single small stud in each year is permitted; the stud must be worn in the lower part of the earlobe and should be removed for PE and dance lessons.  Students wearing other visible piercings will be expected to remove them.  A watch and a simple plain ring are allowed.  No other jewellery should be visible.
• Nail varnish is not permitted.  False, acrylic, gel polish or Shellac nails are not permitted and nails must be of a sensible length for health and safety reasons.
• Garments covering the face or whole body are not permitted.
• Make up is permitted but it MUST be DISCREET and SUITABLE FOR SCHOOL.
• Smart watches, fitbits and any other similar items can only be worn if notifications are turned off and the item is not connected to teh Internet.
• Only badges issued by the school are permitted.
• There must be no drawings, tattoos, writing, or characters on any part of the body.
• If you are in any doubt about any aspect of the uniform requirements please liaise with the appropriate member of pastoral team before making any purchases.

All items must be clearly and permanently marked with the owner's name.

Sixth Form students are expected to wear smart and business-like attire.  

• Jacket: smart and no longer than hip-length.  
• Skirt or dress: smart and business-like, not tight fitting. Should be no more than 10cm above the top of the knee and no longer than ankle length. 
• Trousers: smart and business-like, not tight fitting. 
• Blouse or top: smart and business-like, not tight fitting. 
• Shoes: smart black, grey or navy shoes. Smart boots are allowed. 
• Tights: Black, grey, navy or natural. 
• Cardigans and jumpers: an additional item to a jacket, in black, grey or navy. 

Jewellery, make up and nail varnish: smart, modest and appropriate for a formal environment. The only piercings allowed are for earrings and clear nose studs.  

Scarves: dress scarves are allowed to be worn inside (consider safety in practical lessons).  If head scarves are worn, they should be smart. 

Hair colour: should be on the natural hair colour spectrum, i.e. bright or vivid colours and contrast are not. 

The following are not allowed: 

• Vest tops, crop tops or any strappy tops 
• Hoodies and any other hooded tops. 
• Logos or messages on tops 
• Clothing made from lacy material, denim or leather 
• Leggings, jeggings or tight-fitting low slung trousers 
• Shorts 
• Footwear: trainers, canvas material, sandals, mules, flip flops, Ugg boots or similar 

COATS are not to be worn during the day around school. 

Our minimum expectation is professional wear so other items may be deemed inappropriate. 

Form Tutors will check students’ attire regularly and if it is not in accordance with the above will refer the issue to the Sixth Form team. Infringement of the dress code will lead to disciplinary action, which may include written warnings, being loaned appropriate items of clothing from school and being sent home to rectify the issue. The Head of Sixth Form’s decision is final.
