Junior Maths Challenge Success
At the start of the summer term, all Year 7 and 8 students took part in the Junior Maths Challenge (a series of thought-provoking mathematical puzzles).
Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates are awarded to the top 50% of students in the country in the ratio 3:2:1. The results came in last week and we have been sharing these with students. We are delighted to say that, across both year groups, our students achieved 108 Bronze, 105 Silver and 44 Gold certificates. That means over 70% of Years 7 and 8 students achieved a certificate, with approximately 60% of the year groups achieving Bronze or Silver. We’re very proud of them all!
Of those who have been awarded a Gold certificate, special mentions must go to those whose scores were high enough to earn them a place on either the Junior Kangaroo or the Junior Maths Olympiad. Competing in these extra challenges is by invitation only; it is only the very best in the country who receive invitations, so it’s a real accolade to be asked to take part. In fact, nationally, only around 1,200 students are invited to sit the Olympiad, so we’re ecstatic that three of our students have made it. This year, our Olympiad competitors will be Rokhaya in Year 8 who achieved ‘Best in Year’ and also Tania B and Sara R from Year 7 both of whom got only one question wrong, earning them joint ‘Best in School’.
The Olympiad and Kangaroo competitions will take place on Tuesday 14th June. We can’t wait to see what you do!
