SCGSG Curriculum (Years 10-13)

At Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls, we believe that learning should be both inspiring and impactful. That is why our academic curriculum is expertly designed by subject specialists to spark students’ curiosity while steadily building the essential knowledge and skills they will need to continue to make progress, succeed in future external examinations and become effective and engaged life-long learners.

We are proud of our strong tradition of delivering a high-quality, broad, and balanced education. Our students are encouraged to develop a growth mindset—to recognise the power of effort, embrace challenges with confidence, and take an active role in their learning journey. They are supported to fully participate in lessons by asking questions, sharing their ideas, acting on feedback and to develop a proactive approach to independent study outside the classroom. This journey can be seen through the curriculum maps available within each subject tab on this page, alongside key information to guide subject choices and pathways at GCSE and A-Level.

Lessons are thoughtfully structured to support both academic achievement and personal development. In addition to formal timetabled classes, we offer a rich variety of super-curricular and extracurricular opportunities that deepen understanding and broaden horizons. Further details regarding our curriculum structure, can be found within our Curriculum Policy.

Personal Development is timetabled for each year group, which enables our students to explore and question the world around them in a safe environment.

Assessment is not just a checkpoint; it is a vital part of the learning process.  It is closely woven into the curriculum to ensure every student receives the support, feedback, and challenge they need to progress and thrive.  To gain further understanding of how we structure our Assessment, click here.

Our results reflect the incredible dedication, enthusiasm, and love of learning that our students bring to school every day. Over the past three years, an impressive 78% of A-Level entries have been awarded A*–B grades, and 84% of GCSE results have achieved grades 9 - 7, an outstanding achievement that highlights the hard work of our students, the strength of our teaching, support from our whole staff team and from families at home.
