French
Our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to introduce students to the French/Spanish language and the broader Francophone/Hispanic world. We carefully select engaging topics and high-frequency vocabulary relevant to real-life, transactional situations that students may encounter in the future. Throughout, we embed cultural insights, enabling students to develop a deeper understanding of both the Francophone/Hispanic world and their own.
The curriculum is grammatically rigorous, introducing a wide range of tenses through explicit grammar instruction and consistent retrieval practice. Phonetic understanding is built through our targeted 'physical phonics' programs, which focus on sound-spelling correspondence (SSC). We prioritise ensuring that students have ample time to process and retain new vocabulary and grammar, progressing from receptive to productive output. This approach helps students achieve fluency before moving on to new content. By the end of their studies, students will leave with the confidence to communicate effectively and a global perspective, transforming from students into skilled linguists.
