French
Our MFL curriculum at SCGSG has been thoughtfully designed to introduce students to the French language and to the broader Francophone world. We carefully select a range of engaging topics and high-frequency vocabulary relevant to real-life, transactional situations that students may encounter in the future. Throughout, we embed cultural capital, enabling students to develop a deeper understanding of both the Francophone world and, in contrast, their own.
Our curriculum is grammatically rigorous and ambitious, introducing a wide range of tenses through explicit grammar instruction and regular retrieval practice. Phonetic understanding is established and secured overtime through our targeted 'physical phonics' programmes, which focus on embedding sound-spelling correspondences (SSC) which differ from English. We prioritise ensuring that students have sufficient processing time to embed new vocabulary and grammar, progressing from receptive to productive output. This approach helps students achieve fluency before moving on to new content. By the end of their studies, students will leave with the confidence to communicate effectively and with a global perspective in an increasingly globalised world, transforming students into skilled linguists and communicators.
