Religious Studies
Our curriculum is designed to promote deep knowledge and understanding of religion and world views, in a way that fosters inclusivity and respect for others. We work to ensure that students understand not only diversity between religions, but also within a religion, and we facilitate students in drawing links between religious traditions in order to promote the importance of interreligious dialogue. We encourage students to learn from religious and non-religious ideas by reflecting on their own world views, and we create a safe space to discuss ultimate questions within religion, philosophy, and ethics.
We develop students’ confidence in written and discussion work, equipping them with the skills to plan and write extended evaluative pieces of writing, as well as hold meaningful, respectful, and considered debates. We teach students the skill of interpreting religious teachings, as well as help them understand that interpretation can vary amongst individuals. We encourage students to support their arguments with relevant evidence. We aim to develop critical thinkers who can grapple with difficult philosophical ideas. The written skills we help students develop through KS3 are reflected in our skills trajectory and help students prepare for GCSE and A-Level.
Our mission is to provide students with an experience in the classroom that they will love. Our vision in turn is to nurture students into future citizens who have the skills to respect those who are different from them, recognise what unites rather than divides us, and be able to critically analyse the beliefs and information they will come across in their lives.
