Physical Education

At the heart of our Physical Education curriculum is the belief that physical activity and sport are vital for lifelong health, success, and personal growth. We aim to inspire every student to discover their potential, building both physical skills and character traits that extend beyond the classroom. Through participation, leadership, and teamwork, students will develop confidence, resilience, and a sense of self-worth. We are committed to providing a range of experiences that not only foster sporting excellence but also encourage a lifelong passion for physical activity.

Key Stage 3:

Our curriculum at KS3 is designed to provide a well-rounded foundation in physical education. Students explore a variety of activities across five categories: Invasion Games, Net Games, Striking & Fielding, Creative & Performance, and Athletics. Through these activities, they build on core skills while learning key principles that apply to multiple sports. Over three years, our students develop a deep understanding of movement, strategy, and teamwork, preparing them to progress in both recreational and competitive environments.

Key Stage 4:

In KS4, students are given more ownership of their physical education experience. Our curriculum continues to develop essential skills, with opportunities for repeated practice to solidify knowledge and build confidence. The aim is to inspire enjoyment and confidence, fostering a lasting passion for physical activity. For those who wish to take their studies further, we also offer the AQA GCSE in Physical Education, providing students with the opportunity to deepen their understanding of sports science and leadership.

Key Stage 5:

In Year 12, we offer the Level 2 Sports Leaders Qualification, a nationally recognised certification that teaches essential leadership skills in sport and physical activity. Students gain hands-on experience in leading groups, developing the confidence and competence to guide others in physical pursuits. This qualification empowers students to become leaders not only in sport but also in life.

Extracurricular Opportunities:

Our extracurricular programme is vibrant and diverse, offering students both recreational and competitive opportunities. With clubs running every lunchtime and after school, students can engage in a variety of activities from rugby to badminton. External coaches support our programme in key areas, including rugby, hockey, and badminton. The full extracurricular timetable is available on the school website.

Competitions and Competitive Opportunities:

We believe in offering students the chance to challenge themselves and showcase their talents. Our department participates in a wide range of local and regional competitions, including the Birmingham City competitions and English Schools events in cross country and badminton. Students can compete in netball, hockey, football, badminton, handball, athletics, sports hall athletics, cricket, rounders, and tennis, gaining valuable experience in the competitive arena.
