School Examinations
Regular assessment is a key part of the curriculum experience of our students. Formal assessments take place in lessons at key points during the year and whole year examinations are scheduled for students in each year group.
Year 11/13 Examinations
To help students in their preparations for their external GCSE and GCE examinations, they will sit a set of mock examinations in November/December, before their external examinations begin in May/June.
The Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) oversee these examinations, and they publish some helpful resources through their website which students need to be familiar with. Please see below for links to these documents;
JCQ – Information for Candidates
JCQ – Non Examination Assessment Guidance
JCQ – Guide to Using Social Media during Examinations

Candidates are also responsible for ensuring that they do not have any banned items on their person, which includes mobile phones, watches and any other technological or web-enabled sources of information. The following posters will be placed outside the venues and candidates are advised to familiarise themselves with their content.

Timetables
Examination timetables for both mock examinations and the summer examinations will be shared with students in advance of them starting. Students will also receive an individual timetable that contains information about venues and seating arrangements for their examinations

Examination Contingency Day
Every summer, JCQ designate an examination contingency day should there be any disruption to the national examination timetable. Please note, this is for national disruption as opposed to student absence during the examinations. This year, the contingency day is Wednesday 24th June 2026. Students sitting external examinations need to be available on this date should examinations be rescheduled.
Year 12 Examinations
Year 12 students are enrolled on two-year linear A-Level courses. They sit internal school examinations – mid-year examinations in February and end of year examinations in June.
Year 7 to 10 Examinations
Students in Years 7-10 have school examination week in May, the week before the summer half-term break.
