SCGSG Alumni
Were you a student at Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls?
The school has teamed up with Future First to develop our alumni community and we are keen to engage with former students of the school, regardless of age.
Once details have been registered, we will be able to provide updates on school news and share opportunities to be involved in the life of the school. You can sign up here.
The Old Girls' Association
The Old Girls' Association was formed following the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations at the school on 1st July 1989.
About 500 former students attended this event, 26 of them having attended the school when it was founded in 1929.
A suggestion was made on this occasion that, having met their old school friends again, it would be good to keep in touch, and so the OGA was born.
Its objectives (according to the constitution) are:
- to support the school and former pupils by all legitimate means,
- to provide means for social functions, special activities and fellowship amongst the members.
You can find more about the Old Girls' Association on their Facebook Page, which anyone can access.
There is also a Private Facebook Group, in which former students can share stories, photographs, and reconnect with former classmates. You can become a member of the group by responding to a few simple questions to ensure that you are indeed a former student.
All former students and their teachers are warmly invited to the annual lunch, which is always held on the last Saturday in September in the new break-out area beside the old dining room. You do not need to be a member of the OGA to attend. The lunch is always preceded by the AGM and followed by a guided tour of the school. Both of these are optional. Full details are published on the Facebook pages at the beginning of August, and emailed to any former girls for whom the OGA has contact details. If you would like to be on the contact list please send an email to info@suttcoldoga.uk
If you are interested in joining the OGA, please also send an email to info@suttcoldoga.uk for further details. At the time of writing, subs are £8 per year and are due each October. Membership provides you with a copy of the Link magazine, which is published each May, and contains articles by former students with reminiscences and photos of their time at school, or details of interesting careers and lives which they have had since leaving.
The OGA is not a fundraising body, although there is usually a small profit at the end of each year, which the OGA likes to donate to the school when a suitable project presents itself.
