Happy Friday everyone! Today has been a very special day, as we gathered our Year 11 students together for their final assembly as a full year group. Sharing fond memories of the start of their journey back in 2021, they enjoyed a delicious breakfast spread, collected their personalised hoodies, signed shirts and joined in with a performance from those who starred in Grease earlier this year. Well done everyone, we're so proud of you!

Just after the Easter holidays, some Year 10 students took part in the Biology Challenge, a national competition for 13-15 year olds. Izzy, Isla, Poppy, Zara, Sally, Mayar, Lynn and Isabelle were all awarded the Gold award after scoring within the top 5% of students across the country!

Last night our Year 8 rounders team stormed to victory wining the Sutton schools' rounders tournament. Fielding exceptionally well together, they seamlessly stumped and caught out numerous opposition batters. Striking some long distance hits in their batting innings saw the team win all their games to clinch first place! Well done to Safa, Lottie, Matilda, Isobel, Deniz, Hafsa, Manasvi, Annabel, Sophie and Martha ❤️

The Year 9 rounders team played 5 matches in the Sutton Schools tournament last night and finished in 2nd place. We won 4 out of 5 games, only losing the one game to Plantsbrook by 1/2 a rounder. Stand out players were Gracie, Isla and Kaeto!

Fab news from the PE Department this morning: Since being selected for the West Midlands county U14 football squad at the start of the season, Year 8 student Annabel has played in two games and helped her team win the Midland Counties league. They received their medals on Monday after winning against Shropshire!

It's Work Experience Week for our Year 12 students, and it's wonderful to see the breadth of opportunities that reflect their interests! From placements in healthcare, pharmacy, and dental hygiene, we also have students working in care for children and the elderly, cosmetics, design at IKEA, teaching, communications, and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. We can't wait to hear about them all when they return to school!

We'd like to start Thursday with some wonderful news about dear friend and colleague, Clyde "JJ" Forde from Music Service - Services For Education has won a special award for his contribution to music in the community. JJ has been the leader of our Gospel Choir for many years, and last week he was invited to tea at Buckingham Palace as part of the celebration!

As part of their English lessons, students have been planning investment ideas, like podcasting clubs, which the Parents' Association would provide funding to make a reality!

What a spectacular day for Culture Day! The sun has been shining, there was a gloriously positive atmosphere, and the whole school community turned out today in the most fabulous outfits, representing the incredible diversity of the school community. The celebrations began with a series of cultural dance performances, stalls with homemade sweet treats and samosas, mehndi, books, games and more. Thank you to everyone who took part during the lunchtime event, and for everything behind the scenes. You have helped Ursa raise an amazing £1,914.72 for their chosen charities: FoodCycle and Forgotten Women.

After school yesterday, two Year 9 squads took part in the first ever girls Tag Rugby Tournament for the Sutton schools! We are really hoping that this becomes a permanent fixture; they had a great time, and learnt so much!

Year 8 student, Matilda, took part in the London Mini Marathon. Matilda qualified for it as the first runner for West Midlands U14 and on Friday she travelled down to London and stayed at a hotel with lots of other participants. The actual race was near to the end of the London marathon course, it was 2.5k and out of 254 participants Matilda finished in 41st place! Matilda also got to warm up with Joe Wicks!

Happy Friday! 140 students in Year 12 attended a day at the University of Nottingham yesterday, where they participated in sessions to develop their understanding of student life, budgeting and finance, and how to research the various options available for university study. They gained a lot from this experience and enjoyed exploring the beautiful campus in the sun!

Thank you to the Environmental Committee, who organised an excellent Earth Day event during lunchtime today. Students had their chance to vote for the winning tote bag design, as well as a 1% Club-style quiz, eco-themed crafts, and a game of "Guess the Food Miles" for sweet, vegan prizes!

Happy Wednesday! Starting the day with some incredible news, as we can share that Year 12 Physics student, Lois, came 2nd in the Physics Partners 'What Lights Up Your Love of Physics' video competition. We visited King's College Cambridge over the Easter break and she presented her video confidently. She has won £600 Amazon voucher for herself, £500 towards equipment for the department!
