Prestigious Institute of Physics award for Miss Thomson

We are thrilled to share that our Head of Physics, Miss Thompson, has been awarded a 2026 Teacher of Physics Award from the Institute of Physics (IOP) for her inspirational physics teaching.

The IOP Teachers of Physics Awards celebrate outstanding classroom practice in the teaching of physics, and recognise the success of secondary school teachers in the UK and Ireland who, by their dedication and excellence in the classroom, have raised the state of physics teaching in their school.

Miss Thomson was nominated for supporting a sustained growth in post-16 physics including excellent retention over the A-level course, alongside extra-curricular work that includes establishing an Engineering Club and guiding students in the British Physics Olympiad and Crest Award.

Ian Horsewell, Education Community Manager at the Institute of Physics, said:

"Outstanding physics teachers do far more than teach a subject. They inspire curiosity, build confidence and help young people see how physics can unlock opportunities and shape the world around them.

"These awards recognise teachers whose passion, expertise and commitment have transformed the experiences of their students and colleagues alike. On behalf of the Institute of Physics, I congratulate Miss Thomson on this thoroughly deserved recognition and thank them for the lasting contribution they continue to make to physics education."
