Financial Assistance

School financial assistance:

Please see below for the key ways that we are able to offer financial assistance to our students. We are aware the financial situations can change so please be reassured that this assistance is open throughout the year to families.

This grant provides funding to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils in state-funded schools in England up to Year 11

Pupil premium funding is allocated to eligible schools based on the number of:

  • pupils who are recorded as eligible for free school meals, or have been recorded as eligible in the past 6 years (referred to as Ever 6 FSM)
  • children previously looked after by a local authority or other state care, including children adopted from state care or equivalent from outside England and Wales

We are able to offer support such as money towards uniform and travel, GCSE revisions guides and some stationery as well as funding all core trips. Further to this, we loan digital devices to students for independent working at home.

If your daughter is in this category, we will contact you every September to confirm the additional support that is available for the academic year. If you would like to check your eligibility, please contact finance@suttcold.bham.sch.uk with your enquiry.

For students in Year 12 and above, there is a multi-levelled bursary for students with the following criteria:

  • Young people in care,
  • Care leavers,
  • Young people in receipt of income support and disabled young people in receipt of Employment Support Allowance, Disability Living Allowance and Personal Independence Payment,
  • Household receiving means-tested benefits,

  • Household income between £18,001 - £27,500.

In exceptional circumstances, financial support may be available to families on a case-by-case basis. The fund is limited and supported through fundraising and voluntary contributions. Payments are provided as grants and do not need to be repaid.

The purpose of the fund is to help ensure that all students can fully participate in school life. Support may be available towards:

  • Curriculum trips and visits
  • School uniform, shoes, or sports kit
  • Essential equipment (for example, ingredients for cookery classes)
  • Exceptional travel costs to and from school
  • Other necessary expenses

The fund is not normally intended to cover ongoing extra-curricular activities, such as music tuition.

All requests are considered carefully and handled sensitively. Please note that awards from the fund are discretionary, and the school is not obliged to make payments.

If you feel you may need support, we encourage you to contact the school in confidence via finance@suttcold.bham.sch.uk
