Art and Design
Our curriculum is built around three key threads that support and shape each student's artistic journey. First, a strong understanding of the formal elements whereby we secure the foundational building blocks of art as they are established from the very beginning. Alongside this, students engage deeply with a focused range of media and techniques throughout the curriculum, allowing them the time and space to develop a robust skill set and achieve mastery over time. Finally, we aim to foster a lasting appreciation for art, craft, and, most importantly, creativity. We believe viewing it, is as vital as creating it! This enables us to develop a future-proof skill that will benefit students in whatever personal or professional path they choose.
Thread 1 - The Formal Elements
An understanding of the formal elements and their application are considered the ‘building blocks’ that are foundational from the very start of our student’s journey.
Thread 2 - Focus on Practice
Our students gain experience of a focussed set of media and techniques which allows time, space and practice to develop a robust skill set, ultimately leading to greater depth and mastery over the course of their artistic journeys.
Thread 3 - Value and Appreciation of Art, Craft and Creativity
Beyond the above, we hope to instil in our students a value and appreciation of Art, Craft and importantly creativity as a future-proof skill that will serve them well no matter their future personal or professional pathway.
