Our vision is to empower every student with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to express themselves clearly, creatively, and convincingly, both in speech and in writing. We believe that every student should be inspired to unlock meaning, engage deeply with ideas, and confidently explore the ways language shapes our understanding of the world. By immersing students in a diverse range of challenging and thought-provoking ideas, we aim to deepen their understanding of the world, encouraging them to think critically, explore different perspectives, and ultimately shape a more informed and compassionate view of the world around them.

"When I look back, I am so impressed again with the life-giving power of literature. If I were a young person today, trying to gain a sense of myself in the world, I would do that again by reading, just as I did when I was young." – Maya Angelou

Mrs J. Manning, Head of Department
