In Geography, our intent is for the curriculum to promote in our learners a curiosity about the world around them.  We aim to inspire our students to become responsible citizens of the planet who are committed to protecting our environment for future generations. We endeavour for our pupils to leave school with the confidence to interact with our dynamic and diverse world, leading to fulfilled and positive life experiences in the future.

Students are explicitly taught skills, knowledge and the vocabulary needed to effectively explain and understand geographical issues in the past, present and future as well as at local, national and global scales. Geography students become deep thinkers; investigative in their fieldwork, evaluative in their ability to use figures and analytical in their use and comparisons of data. Our students also learn to be empathetic through appreciating different cultures and thinking critically and sensitively about other people’s views and practices, which might be different from their own.

Our engaging curriculum is designed around the ideas of people, place and the important and ever-changing interactions between these. We focus our curriculum around seven key ideas; urban challenges & opportunities, economic development, resources & sustainability, climate change, ecosystems, hazardous environments and natural landforms.

Geographical skills are embedded within units of work throughout all key stages. Students develop their cartographic, graphical, ICT and GIS skills. Fieldwork enquiries enable students to apply their skills, knowledge and understanding within both human and physical Geography.
